[DISCUSS] New Community Provider: IBM Db2
Hi Airflow community,
I’d like to propose adding a new community provider for IBM Db2.
Integration overview
IBM Db2 is an enterprise-grade relational database management system widely
used across enterprise data architectures. Adding an official IBM Db2
provider to Apache Airflow will allow users to manage Db2 connections,
execute SQL queries, run ETL/ELT pipelines, and handle workflow
orchestration seamlessly using dedicated hooks.
The provider exposes a Db2Hook that extends DbApiHook via the ibm-db client
library, enabling full compatibility with SQLExecuteQueryOperator.
System tests
System tests will validate integration against a live IBM Db2 instance. We
plan to configure continuous integration tests using containerized Db2
instances to validate core connectivity and query execution, with plans to
make test results available in alignment with Airflow system test
guidelines.

Hi Vikram,
Thank you for the warm welcome and the +1 — it means a lot!
To answer your question directly: yes, both Shubham and I are part of IBM.
This effort is backed by IBM to bring first-class Db2 support to Apache
Airflow, which aligns with IBM's broader investment in the open-source.
We are committed to following all Apache Airflow contribution guidelines,
maintaining the provider long-term, and being responsive to community
feedback.
We look forward to getting the PR merged.
Thanks & Regards

Hi Amit,
I am very positive about having IBM DB2 support within the common.sql
provider.
I see that you already have David Blain as a sponsoring committer, and have
asserted your willingness to follow the guidelines.
In the interest of transparency, are you and Shubham part of the IBM
organization?
I look forward to seeing this materialize.
