svnadmin load reports: svn: Found malformed header block in dumpfile
stream
abstract: svnadmin load reports: svn: Found malformed header block in
dumpfile stream
desription:
svnadmin load reports: svn: Found malformed header block in dumpfile stream
The repository was fs-type fsfs
The host environment is Win2K, SP4
svn version:
svn, version 1.1.3 (r12730)
compiled Jan 20 2005, 05:51:34
Priority: P1
reproduce the problem:
Tthe local command line environment is JPSoft's "Take Command", see:
http://www.jpsoft.com. This should execute with cmd.exe anyway]
f:
cd \
mkdir svntest
mkdir svntest\foo
mkdir svntest\repos1
mkdir svntest\repos2
svnadmin create --fs-type fsfs svntest/repos1
svnadmin create --fs-type fsfs svntest/repos2
echo "Create some test data" >f:\svntest\foo\bar
svn import -m"test dump and load" svntest/foo file:///svntest/repos1/foo
svnadmin dump svntest/repos1 >svntest/dumprepos1
svnadmin load --ignore-uuid svntest/repos2 <svntest\dumprepos1
note that the load step fails also when --ignore-uuid is not specified.

Thanks for the tip. ... but, it should not make a difference.
... Oh My! ... it worked with cmd.exe. ... What's up?
A careful examination of the Take Command documentation shows an options
setting for programs that use multiple methods for getting output to
stdio may cause "lost data". The docs didn't make it clear what
"methods of getting output to stdio" meant. I would imagine it's the
difference between buffered (printf()) and unbuffered (write()) methods.
Changing the "Caveman" options for subversion/bin directory to "stdio
off" fixed the problem. dumps and loads work just fine now
... Just for the record in case anyone else asks or if the SubVersion
documentation maintainers want to say something about TakeCommand.
Does anyone but me use TakeCommand as a command processor?

Larry

First, thanks for the suggestion. Methinks is shouldn't make a difference.
... Oh My! ... It worked! [Expressions of shock and awe!]
That's an absolute "ShouldNotOccur" kinda thing. In over 10 years with
JPSoft alternate command processors I've never, ever seen a command line
program that produced different results from same program run under the
OEM supplied command processor.
Yet another reason to dump Windows. ...[mumble ... grumble ... swear ...
rant]
I'll open a ticket with JPSoft.

Larry

I couldn't reproduce it with
svn, version 1.1.4 (r13838)
compiled Apr 3 2005, 22:02:31
on Windows XP (cmd.exe).
I'd suggest trying the native cmd.exe for a start.

Also happens with:
svn, version 1.1.4 (r13838)
compiled Apr 3 2005, 22:02:31
