commit access for lenya-committer

Hello list,

I just wanted to correct the following error in cvs-head:
in line 48 of
xml-forrest\src\documentation\content\xdocs\wiki-sample.cwiki (cvs head)
now is:

but should be:

I use eclipse for CVS. When I try to commit eclpise reports the
following error:
The server reported an error while performing the "cvs commit" command.
xml-forrest: cvs server: Pre-commit check failed
xml-forrest: cvs [server aborted]: correct above errors first!

I guess this is because I do not have access to the Repository. If not
any clue what that can be?

I guess I do not have to report a bug for that, or should I?

King regards
thorsten

I will check today at home in which UNIX group I am in.

Yes. However do not get too specific about using particular
SVN clients. For example, i just use the command-line SVN client.

Perhaps we need a separate page for notes for committers,
as we do not want to confuse the users.

Ok, that was the 10th fresh checkout ;-)

You are right! My problem was:
1) I used the eclipse SVN plugin!
I checked out the forrest trunk for more than 5 times. Everytime I was
trying to checkin, I got an error!
2) Then I switched the SVN tool and used TortoiseSVN 1.0.4, Build 1102,
UNICODE. I did that before but back then I didn't set my svn-password.
I am now able to commit and did it :)

My advice for committer that have access to forrest svn (UNIX-Groups:
cocoon, forrest):
I) Prepare your access:
1) ssh cvs.apache.org (You can check in which groups you are with "groups")
2) svnpasswd $yourUserName
3) then you will be ask for the new password ($newPassword)
4) download and install a SVN client - At the end I used TortoiseSVN
II) Checkout the new Head (with TortoiseSVN-> right mouse->Checkout):
1) https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/xml/forrest/ (URL of repository)
2) Head Revision (Revision)
III) Change the file you would like to change
1) Commit (with TortoiseSVN-> right mouse->Commit)
2) Username ($yourUserName)
3) Password ($newPassword)

... cross your fingers and smile (hopefully)

Remarks:
It can be that you will have to wait a time to be able to use your
username and password after you have set this with the ssh-shell. I
waited about a day. So please be patient and try it more than one time ;-).

If you want I can make a note in http://xml.apache.org/forrest/build.html.

Please try again with a fresh checkout of trunk.
It should not be this difficult.

List the exact steps that you do. If we cannot see
anything wrong with what you are doing. then we will

Hi devs,

I did the above mentioned steps but still get:
Authorization failed
svn: Commit failed (details follow):
svn: CHECKOUT of
/repos/asf/!svn/ver/9585/xml/forrest/trunk/src/core/fresh-site/src/documentation/content/xdocs/samples/wiki-sample.cwiki:

I used the username "thorsten" and the password that I just set before
in a ssh-session!

I think I will use issue tracking and let somebody else commit the patch
es ;-).

Ah, you will find that there are many obscure things
at Apache. If something is confusing you, just ask on
the relevant mailing lists.

We all wish that there was better documentation for
committers and that methods were a bit more consistent
across projects. Maybe as more people start to contribute.

Anyway, do you know about http://www.apache.org/dev/

The latter obviously needs patching to tell about SVN.

Cheers David,

I didn't know that I had to set the that passwd!
Thank you very much!

Regarding the [[http://www.apache.org] problematic ([[->[) I figured out
that a double "[[" within the paragraph will NOT be transformed into a
single "[". Where else a single "[" WILL transformed to a link.

So I see 2 ways to fix that:
1) Fix the stylesheet that doing the transformation. -> I think that
would be preferable.
2) use {{{ [http://www.apache.org]}}} instead. -> Looks kind of weird.

I we choose 1) can somebody please point me to th responable stylesheet.

Cheers David for the info,

I checked my groups (via "groups") and the result is:
thorsten apcvs xml avalon cocoon avalon-components

...so I should be able to commit, or not! But as soon as I want to
commit the identification is not sufficient.

I checked with infrastructure. The situation is that
people in the "forrest" UNIX group and people in the
"cocoon" group have commit access to SVN forrest.
Lenya committers are in the "cocoon" group.

You probably would not automatically have access.

The Forrest project has a group of committers that have
been voted in. A while ago we did extend that to Cocoon
committers, but i do not now if it further extends to
new Lenya committers.

Anyway, the usual practice would be for people to come
and participate in the forrest-dev mailing list.

There is no dis-respect intended with these comments,
but i think that we would not really want people from
outside to just commit stuff to our repository.

At least, not at this stage. We are discussing a potential
top-level project for Forrest, and this requirement for
casual commit access has been thrown in the melting pot.

In the meantime, please use Jira for patches.
Your contributions and participation are most welcome.

Cheers, but I am a lenya-committer. I don't know whether I can commit to
forrest because with https I cannot see the project (403).

Who could tell me whether I have access to the SVN or not?

Committers need to check out with https: instead of http: It looks like
only the Contributing page mentions that. Anyway, you can switch your
checkout from http to https with this:

Ok, I installed http://subclipse.tigris.org/ and checkout everything out

Then I changed the file, try to commit it and got this error:
