how do I compile mod_jserv.so in tomcat 3.1?

I want to compile mod_jserv.so in tomcat 3.1, trouble is
I can't seem to find the directory

jakarta-tomcat/src/native/apache/jserv/

like it says in the minimalistic user's guide

Where do I turn to be able to get a binary of mod_jserv.so?  I am using
apache 1.3.12 on a solaris 2.6 box.  I have tried unsuccessfully for two
days to create a binary myself.  I have been in the apxs script, changed the
compiler options and the linker options.  The instructions in the Tomcat
user guide do not work.
I will appreciate all the help that I can get.

You have to download the src code to be able to compile mod_jserv.so.  I am
sure that you downloaded the binaries for jakarta-tomcat.  I have been
trying to compile the mod_jserv.so since yesterday morning on a Solaris
machine for apache1.3.12 and tomcat 3.1 without any luck.
