I really doubt you're seeing a bug in Solr, especially since it would make Solr unusable. People would have noticed...
What you're seeing can happen under a couple of circumstances:
1> you didn't commit after your last batch update.
2> some of your docs have the same value defined for any <uniqueKey> you have in your schema.xml file.
Try looking here:
solr/admin/schema.jsp
and if you see your numDocs and maxDocs numbers differ, then you have a bunch of deleted files in your index.
