[I] Iceberg Connector Confluent: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.iceberg.IcebergBuild [iceberg]
santurini opened a new issue, #13964:
URL: https://github.com/apache/iceberg/issues/13964
I am deploying a confluent stack in Kubernetes which install the Apache Iceberg Connector like this:
```
apiVersion: platform.confluent.io/v1beta1
kind: Connect
metadata:
name: connect
namespace: confluent
spec:
replicas: 1
image:
application: confluentinc/cp-server-connect:7.9.0
init: confluentinc/confluent-init-container:2.11.0
build:
type: onDemand
onDemand:
plugins:
confluentHub:
- name: debezium-connector-mysql
owner: debezium
version: latest
- name: iceberg-kafka-connect
owner: iceberg
version: latest
```
But as soon as I create a sink connector, I have this error trace:
```
{
"name":"sink-lara-documents",
"connector":{
"state":"FAILED",
"worker_id":"connect-0.connect.confluent.svc.cluster.local:8083",
Digging deeper in the connect container I ensured that the plugin folder is present and visible:
```
$ ls /mnt/plugins/iceberg-iceberg-kafka-connect/
assets iceberg-iceberg-kafka-connect-1.9.2 lib manifest.json
$ ls /mnt/plugins/iceberg-iceberg-kafka-connect/lib/
iceberg-kafka-connect-1.9.2.jar
```
And from the control-center:
<img width="998" height="244" alt="Image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/189433d0-3918-4b91-b174-b10286104a1f" />
So my wild guess is that the provided `iceberg-kafka-connect-1.9.2.jar` does not have all the necessary dependencies to create a connector.
Okay because I am downloading the plugin from the official [Confluent Hub](https://www.confluent.io/hub/) and previously I was using a Tabular Iceberg Sink implementation but now it has been removed. The point is that the plugins `.jar` should contain all the dependencies because when using the Confluent Kubernetes CRDs it is really difficult to workaround and manually put the unzipped folder in the correct location. I'll give it a shot!
This issue has been automatically marked as stale because it has been open for 180 days with no activity. It will be closed in next 14 days if no further activity occurs. To permanently prevent this issue from being considered stale, add the label 'not-stale', but commenting on the issue is preferred when possible.
You are correct, you need the "zip" which has all the dependencies.
see
https://iceberg.apache.org/docs/latest/kafka-connect/#installation
And yes we should make this simpler to use. I think we have an issue for that somewhere
I don't believe you have to unzip it, but I haven't checked in a while
