[jira] [Created] (SPARK-6949) Support Date and Decimal in Column expression of DataFrame Python API

Davies Liu created SPARK-6949:
---------------------------------

Summary: Support Date and Decimal in Column expression of DataFrame Python API
                 Key: SPARK-6949
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SPARK-6949
             Project: Spark
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: PySpark, SQL
    Affects Versions: 1.3.0, 1.4.0
            Reporter: Davies Liu
            Priority: Blocker

Currently, we reply on Py4j to pass the Python object into JVM for Column expression, but Py4j can not pass datatime.date, datetime.datetime to JVM automatically.

One way is to update the py4j to support them (it may slip the 1.4 release), or we handle them ourselves (in short term).
