RC4 Prep and Release Notes
Craig (et al. . .),
Thanks for your work on all the bugs. I think are looking very nice for
an RC4 to be cut on Sunday. I forgot that I've got all day plans on
Sunday, so I probably won't get around to the release until Sunday
night. Let's plan to make the cut-off around 4PM EST Sunday.
Here is the todo list:
1) Issue 131 - I'm working now
2) Update Release Notes
3) Update Site
4) Global Find and Replace changing RC3 to RC4 - I will do on Sunday
What else?

I agree with Elliot. I think it will be better to provide a document telling
user to modify Tomcat's server.xml by hand after deploying pluto.

Thanks Elliot,
David, can you add something to GettingStarted.html and install.xml to
explaining what you did in server.xml and how it needs to be replicated
in non-Tomcat 5.5 environments?

Check out lines 176-179 in the root maven.xml file to see how I used

Yes, I agree. The initial intent was to update the server.xml in order
to add the emptySessionPath="true" to the Connector for the binary
distribution. I'm not sure why I didn't think about all other source
builds :) . . . .
Is there an easy way to just UPDATE the existing server.xml to add
emptySessionPath="true" to the Connector node? If so, is this what we
should do instead or should we just leave things alone and make it a
manual process. I'd like to at least do something for the binary dist.

David Craig, Everyone:
Thanks for all this effort on RC4! I will do my best to contribute with
testing this weekend!
I have plans tonight but should be available most of sunday.
Questions wrt 131:
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Pluto's install never actually over-wrote
$CATALINA_HOME/conf/server.xml prior to rc4 but with rc4 it will.
Methinks this would be problematic for people deploying in an already
configured Tomcat container, perhaps one with local customizations?
Should the modifications to server.xml be done by hand by a local
administrator or is it best to overwrite server.xml?
If the decision is to overwrite server.xml with the one supplied by
Pluto, can that be documented as well in the build_source directions?
I'm going to get TC 5.5.9 up and running real quick and do some quick
tests and report back!
Thanks all,
Elliot

Hi,
I've built Pluto from source and deployed it to Tomcat 5.5.9 about 10
minutes ago. The instructions from developer/build_source.html seems OK,
except that a comment should be made to notify users that Pluto works only
with Tomcat 5.5.x.
Regards.

Since using cross context sessions requires 5.5 or above, are we ok with
this or do I need to make this more intelligent about versions?

Re: RC4 Prep and Release Notes
Posted by Zhong ZHENG <he...@gmail.com>.
Hi, there,
i found the problem. When deploying pluto to tomcat, the '
$CATALINA_HOME/conf/server.xml' is modified, but the modified version only
works for tomcat 5.5. I downloaded tomcat 5.5.9 and deployed pluto to it,
and this time, everything goes on well.
Since currently i am using tomcat 5.0.28, i restored the original
server.xmlfile after deployment, and now pluto portal is OK.
Regards.

Re: RC4 Prep and Release Notes
Posted by Zhong ZHENG <he...@gmail.com>.
Hi,
i tried to deploy the latest version of pluto (from SVN: pluto/trunk) to
tomcat 5.0.28 using J2SDK 1.4.1_05.
After i fixed the method 'toString()' in class '
org.apache.pluto.portalImpl.core.PortalURL', the deployment is successful,
but tomcat failed to start up. The following exception is thrown out:

Re: RC4 Prep and Release Notes
Posted by Craig Doremus <cr...@maine.com>.
I've done some documentation updates this week, but I'm unsure if the
instructions for building from source (developer/build_source.html)
needs updating. The instructions on this page seem out-of-date. Can
anyone who has build Pluto from source recently comment?
TIA

Done!

Halfway Done. Craig, could you add what you've completed.

I'm specifically talking about adding content around our status, etc. .
.I've done some basics but would like to see more if anyone has time.

Done!
If there's anything else anyone can think about, let me know.
