Press Releases for new TLPs: Apache NetBeans

Hi Sally,

The graduation of Apache NetBeans to TLP is imminent. It is scheduled to be
decided by the board next week.

We have been strongly advised by our mentors to contact you now as there is
little time to draft up a proper press release.

Herewith I am doing that on behalf of Apache NetBeans.

Thanks,

Geertjan

No, not now --the Board Meeting is in less than 48 hours. That would be inhumane.

I mean by the time the press release goes out <g>

I have one or two more quotes, but for the rest will leave it up to you to
edit or change the content however you like to make it fit your
requirements.

Thanks,

Re: Press Releases for new TLPs: Apache NetBeans

Posted by Sally Khudairi <sk...@apache.org>.
Thanks, Geertjan.

Just a quick comment on the draft thus far: I love the detailed background, the history, the enthusiastic quotes.

However, as this is a press release we simply cannot use all of this content. We need to keep copy short and to-the-point for easy consumption by members of the media/analyst community.

May I suggest you consider publishing a blog post on this (history, project development process whilst undergoing incubation) and we can point to it from the press release. If you don't have your own blog, please contact ASF Infrastructure (via JIRA ticket) to establish blogs.apache.org/NetBeans and assign at least 2 PMC members as admins with editing credentials.

Kind thanks in advance,
Sally

I've started adding content to the above.

We need quotes from educational institutions, organizations, etc etc, i.e.,
users of various kinds large and small, for inclusion in the above.

I've approached some of you and have some quotes already.

But, this is for all of us and belongs to all of us equally -- so speak up
if on behalf of yourself or some organization of some kind you'd like to be
included in the press release.

Thanks,

Gj

Thanks so much, Geertjan. Apologies for the top-posting.

The draft is at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QtBgatAO1VNmLaNuOaJB7EoA6vY5G_hOJdsQqNvpgh8/edit?usp=sharing

Everything else looks good. If we're super-efficient, I have a spot open on 25 April. Otherwise, we can announce the following week.

As for removing "incubating" from Apache NetBeans properties/assets, we prefer to have that done before we announce, if possible. At a minimum the netbeans.a.o homepage and Twitter profile page.

Kind regards,
Sally

Re: Press Releases for new TLPs: Apache NetBeans

Posted by Sally Khudairi <sk...@apache.org>.
Hello again, Geertjan --as promised, here's the process:

We work together to issue a formal ASF press release --here's a great opportunity to solicit quotes/testimonials from the Apache NetBeans community to demonstrate the project's robustness and breadth of deployment.

TLP announcements have ranged from having single quotes (VP of the project) to several perspectives from the PMC to multiple endorsements from the community. [1] is an example that you might find useful.

Organizations supporting/using NetBeans are welcome to issue their own, standalone "hurrah, Apache NetBeans!" blog post or press release at that time as well (we love it when multiple announcements come out to support a podling's graduation!). We just need to make sure that we coordinate messaging/timing/etc.

So our next steps here are for you (and the pPMC) to:

0) determine the primary point-of-contact during the drafting/editing process;

1) help me draft the announcement (mostly filling in the "what is NetBeans"/features+functionality bits --I'll start a draft on googledocs and will provide the headline/subhead/opening paragraph/boilerplates/trademark notice/*);

2) decide whether you'd like to include supporting testimonials from the community (and solicit them); and

3) work together so that our formal press/public and internal/developer/list timing is in synch (it's best to have everything
roll out within a 24-48 hour timeframe, rather than announce the project's graduation on your dev list or announce@apache.org, followed by a press release several weeks later)

Before anything goes out on the media/analyst news channels, it's imperative that references to "incubating/incubation" on netbeans.apache.org are removed so that our pointers are active and accurate.

We also need to lock in the announcement date --we usually issue press releases on Tuesdays, as that garners the best global media exposure/coverage, followed by Mondays, then Wednesdays. So if we're *super* efficient following this month's Board meeting (providing they approve the graduation request), the earliest we could consider issuing the press release would be the week of 22 April (again, we might need more time to accommodate third parties who are providing quotes).

Thanks in advance for your help. Feel fee to ping me if you need anything. I look forward to working with you!

Warmly,
Sally

Problem with package-info.class getAnnotation

Posted by arsi <ar...@chello.sk>.
Hi,

While porting NBANDROID-V2 to ANB (Java 11) I came across a problem with
/StandardModule.OneModuleClassLoader/.
It does not override the method: |protected Class<?> findClass(String
name)| and something has changed in the implementation of
|Class.getPackage().getAnnotation(Class annotationClass )| and now it
call the method |findClass(String name)| from ClassLoader and there is:

     protected  Class<?>  findClass(String  name) throwsClassNotFoundException  {
         throw  new  ClassNotFoundException(name);
     }

With Java 8, it works without problems..
