Geronimo v2.0 Documentation - Topics to cover

Hi All,
I'm updating the existing Geronimo documentation to v2.0, here is the link.

http://cwiki.apache.org/GMOxDOC20/documentation.html

Are there any specific topics that you guys would like to see covered for v2.0 first? Are there any topics from previous releases you guys don't want to see anymore?

Cheers!
Hernan

Hi Hernan,

Of course you can take it for granted that I'm volunteering. I can check
content and draw diagrams if necessary. Are there any documents other
than the ones that we are working on our end that I can lend a hand it.
If so, I can check those too. I wanted to check so that we are not
duplicating efforts :)

Regards

Hi Ricardo Gil

That's really great you showed your interest in Geronimo
documentation. This the most ideal area to start with Geronimo newbie.I
think you have taken the right start.

You can always shoot your issues to get help from the mailing list. Most
of the Authors of the G v1.1 are active in the mailing list.Only thing
is you have to provide more details and be more specific (for an example
pasting the exact error message or what you have tried to fix ) regards
to your question. It will make everything fast.

I think Hernan already pointed out very good areas to get going with
you.

Hola Ricardo,
great that you are interested in Geronimo and even greater you want to help out with the documentation !!! ;-)
If you are new to Geronimo that is not a bad thing at all, actually it's the other way around. You may be able to see things we are missing in the current doc (or planned) a lot faster.

If there is an area in particular you have interest in you may start taking a look at the existing documentation, see how that applies to v2.0 and work on a section in the current documentation. (let's have all the discussions on the dev list so we all know who is doing what and avoid overlapping).

EJB3 support and conversion tool are not fully integrated yet in this milestone so most of those EJB related samples are likely to fail. But this also changes every day as more and more features are integrated.

I personally don't know much about the plugin architecture but it would be a great topic for discussion on the dev list if you are having difficulties to get your sample plugin to work. I would encourage you to start a new thread in dev@.

As for translations, documentation for v1.0 and v1.1 got (mostly) translated to Español, Polski, Français and I think Japanese. However, given the frequency of the releases and updates to the documentation itself, I would rather stay away from any translation effort and focus on new content. That's just my personal opinion.

All in all, you pick the area you have more interest in, discuss about it on dev@ then we work a way to get it in the doc. How does that sound?

Cheers!
Hernan

Re: Geronimo v2.0 Documentation - Topics to cover

Hi!

I'm starting to use geronimo and I'm trying to work with 2.0 version
so I'm too newbie but I think I have a good learning speed and I'm
enjoying geronimo. I would offer my help but I don't know where can I
help. May be you could lead me into the right area.

I've made an attempt to port the JMS and MDB sample of v1.1 but I'm
stucked with the EJB, it fails in the deployment. The rest of the
sample works correctly with some version and package changes (and
changing the JNDI lookup). It would be a great sample to add to 2.0
docs.

One of the most interesting sample in v1.1 is the advanced plugin
sample. There are changes in the way plugins are generated and
deployed into geronimo? I've made my tests here with a dumb plugin but
I can't configure car maven-plugin in order to set the destination
repository. I need to work more on that... I think I'm trying to go
too fast for me. It would be great to have this sample in geronimo 2.0
docs.

Oh, I'm spanish so if geronimo project is searching a spanish
traductor, maybe I could help here in my free time too.

Let me know if you think I can help here! Thanks for your work :) I'm
enjoying this app server :).

Hi Hernan

I assume you have come up with the planed content of G2.0 as shown in
the below in the given url.I would like to know why the deployment plan
and xmls schema documents are missing in the content.I think M2 has more
to document in this area.
Any thoughts Hernan?

Thanks and Regards
Kanchana

Thanks for pointing that out Dave.
Long overdue, I ended up removing those four columns. As you said, we already have that info in the release notes plus I was missing what was the plan for the new milestone/beta releases.
My original idea was to have displayed what features are supported in the available milestone releases and what we plan to include (overall "do") for the upcoming releases. Let me know if you guys want that back, if so I'll need an updated "wish list".

Cheers!
Hernan

I suspect the Milestone 2 items on the page you referenced is out of
date. The most recent info is contained in the 2.0-M2 Release Notes.
