It would seem very useful to have a smaller-footprint XmlBeans jar. This will require some non-trivial amount of work to make it happen, because currently there are interdependency among all areas of the product. Maybe a look at the build.xml file would help sort the dependencies and maybe extract some smaller jar than doesn't include everything that is present in xbean.jar

Because of the Runtime dependency on compilation and typesystem, it's not possible to get to a slim core.
