[jira] [Created] (HIVE-3174) should not be throwing exceptions for many JDBC Database metadata properties

N Campbell created HIVE-3174:
--------------------------------

Summary: should not be throwing exceptions for many JDBC Database metadata properties
                 Key: HIVE-3174
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-3174
             Project: Hive
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: JDBC
    Affects Versions: 0.8.1
            Reporter: N Campbell

When a JDBC application attempts to access numerous database metadata properties it will frequently encounter the driver throwing an exception. It should not throw exceptions and should return valid values per the JDBC specification etc. If you were to use an open source application such as SQLSquirrel and attempt to view the Metadata tab a lot of properties will be shown as <Unsupported> which is them handling the exception vs the expected values such as False or True etc.
