Release 1.0?

Hi all,
is there a timeline for the release 1.0? Currently it exists 33 issues
(9 Bugs).
Is there a plan for a feature freeze? Maybe some big issues can be
moved to version 1.1?

Thanks for response
Marko

Yes, that's what I meant. Very nice.

Thanks for the hint, I'll dig in that direction.

If by "live" you mean that you can index a fetched & parsed segment, and
have it appear immediately in live search after you commit, then yes.
Other than that, Nutch still uses segments as a unit of work, so the
segment generation / fetch / parsing / updatedb etc. are still batch
operations that take time.

You can implement your own analyzer, which first caches all tokens from
TokenStream, and then passes them all at once to the external process.

Wow. Does it mean we'll have live indexing out of the box?

By the way, is there any chance to modify stemming to process several
wordforms (tokens) at once, and not one-by one? That would really
increase speed of my external stemming.

Please see the CHANGES.txt in the nightly releases, and pick the change
you like the best ;) There's a lot of changes and improvements, and new
functionality.

My favorites: Tika mime-type handling, new indexing framework, new
scoring framework, Nutch/Solr integration, significant Fetcher
improvements, ditto for redirect handling.

Thank you.
I think it's a good idea to start the 1.0 release process now. There are
already several blogs that published that Nutch 1.0 will be out in Feb.
Here is http://mimblog.de/2009/02/02/nutch-release-10/ one of blogs . Many
people would love to see the 1.0 release.

I discovered today that the Solr/Nutch integration introduced some loss
of functionality too. Namely, NutchDocument that is now used instead of
Lucene Document doesn't allow to set boosts on individual fields, only a
single boost for the whole document. As it happens, I have a few custom
plugins that use this feature, and they cannot be ported to the latest
Nutch.

I will of course report it in JIRA, but it's probably too late to change
this before 1.0.

The only thing I was concerned about was the new indexer framework and
how it integrated with the Solr patches. But it turns out that while it
doesn't integrate with solr, the functionality isn't affected either.
So I feel good to go for a 1.0 release. +1.

What is a visible issue? The one marked as Bug & Major? We tried to
address them, and it seems to me that there's just a couple of them
left, those that don't require making broad changes to the code base.

As for the other open issues ... if they are not critical they need to
be dealt with later. We simply have to make a cut somewhere, otherwise
we will continue adding new features and tweaks indefinitely, without
ever making a release.

We already waited one month, we even waited 1 year ... Even if we
schedule 1.1 to be released two months after 1.0 I would still vote for
pushing the 1.0 now.

If you think that there are any critical unresolved issues please let us
know _now_ - if they can be easily fixed and tested, they will be fixed
before this release.

Hi All Senior Nutch Developers,

Why all this hurry??? There are number of good issues yet to be resolved.
Version 1 means, no visible issues.

As per my view, we can wait for one more month, instead of getting bad
reputation. What do you all think?

I think that no one else but me made any guesses about the release date?
(since it is virtually impossible due to fact that this is not a paid
project).

The general consensus seems to be that we should get the next release
out preferably sooner than later. I personally still think that the
first release candidate is not that far away - we have no blocker issues
left and it seems (judged by the lack of activity on working with those
remaining issues) that the ones still there are not too important.

I am going to commit NUTCH-669 soon and after that I am fine with
starting the release process. Other devs might have different opinions.

Re: Release 1.0?

Posted by dealmaker <vi...@gmail.com>.
Hi,
Is there going to be a delay of the 1.0 release? Today is almost Feb 28.
You said that 1.0 will come in Feb. I am customizing Nutch 0.9, and I am
wondering if I should wait couple more days for the 1.0 release.
Thanks.
