Provide use case for one way messaging ?

Can someone clarify my understanding of one way messaging:

OK. rpc is basically 2 corresponding one way messages but each in different directions. Doing one way messaging is akin to "fire and forget". Without some reliability constructs in it, the message is not guranteed to arrive at the destination. What are some real life examples of its uses ?
