weird behaviour with 1.0.0 and linux

I'm still having the same problem with that user and apache not
accepting connections in standalone mode, but in inetd mode it
will.

There is a firewall involved, but the firewall is 3 levels about it, and
we checked the log, no packets from this machine are being
trapped.

The correct number of children do spawn, but as the next connection
comes in, it does not spwan one to get the request, and no entries
are made in the log files. It is looking at the correct log files, I checked
that. It's a exact compile of apache_1.0.0.tar.gz with no additional
modules, or extra optimization.

I'm outta of things to check.
