Enum, optional, default?
Given an enumerated type.
Given an element of that enumerated type with minOccurs='0' and
nullable unspecified (and not, presumably, relevant).
What is the semantics of a message that omits the element? Which value
of the enumeration is indicated?

It should just be null.
