[m2] Can't get it to work

Hi all,

I just downloaded Maven2 and installed it. With the "mvn --version" command I verified that Maven2 is running. So far so good. Now I tried to create a new project with "archetype:create" there Maven2 replied that there was no such plugin found in the local repository.

Now it took me some time due to several broken links to figure out, how to set up a "settings.xml" file in the .m2 folder so I could specifie a proxy. I set the file up and configured a proxy (the same proxy settings I use with Maven1.1). When I call the "archetype:create" plugin again still the same error message comes up that the plugin could not be found. How does that work?? Doesn't Maven2 automatically update the local repository upon request like Maven1.1 used to do it?? How do I get Maven2 to build up the local repository anyway???

Any help would be great since I'd like to start using Maven2.

Thanks

Steffen.
