Reservation "prep" performance

Evening, all --

I'm looking to improve performance when a reservation request is made and
instructions are sent via SSH to target computers (in my case, VMs). It's
sometimes taking as long as 2-3 minutes to prep an already-waiting image
for a user who's made an on-demend request. I was thinking about bringing
up a second management node, but wasn't sure if I'd realize any performance
improvement since the commends--and their acknowledgments--are sent to the
reserved machine in a specific order. Are there items that I could shove
off into the reload process so they're already done before the reservation
process begins?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike
