   @garrensmith For me this would be much easier to follow with a worked example. As we're still dealing in view groups here, I suggest something like:
   
   Two docs:
   
   ```
   {
       "_id": "foo",
       "hello": "mike"
   }
   {
       "_id": "bar",
       "hello": "garren"
   }
   ```
   
   Two map indexes:
   
   ```
   // view name "numbers"
   function map(doc) {
       emit([1,2,3], doc.hello);
   }
   
   // view name "letters"
   function map(doc) {
       emit("b", doc.hello);
   }
   ```
