Flexible Standard Query Parser vs. Classic QP

Hi,

Does anyone know what is the reason the "flexible standard query parser' (I
think that's the name) that Adriano Crestani worked on a few years ago
never replaced the old/classic QP?

Just curious because I noticed Adriano working on
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LUCENE-5344
