   ### Expected results
   
   "57e056432cabc91ca7169f38218842318c0d3915"
   
   ### Actual results
   
   It looks like a repr from the python byte string instead of the actual git hash :)
   "b'57e056432cabc91ca7169f38218842318c0d3915\\n'"
   
   ### Steps to reproduce
   
   Look at version info from the gui
