New committer questions

Hi,

I am trying to figure out some basic things. I have been searching
the mail archives and the Apache site for a while. At this point, it
will be easier if someone tells me what to do :-)

1. I want write access to the project wiki. What do I need to do?
This url: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/signup.action does not
seem to be working.

2. I updated this file: flex/site/trunk/content/flex/team.mdtext and
checked it in. It looks like the check in went through fine. What
else do I need to update the website here:
http://incubator.apache.org/flex/team.html ?

3. I want to create a folder in the whiteboard area for myself. Do I
need permission or do I just create it and check it in?

4. How do I get a personal webpage:
http://people.apache.org/~bigosmallm. I plan to host the
InstallApacheFlex air/exe apps here. Ideally, this should go on our
website, but I want to start testing by putting it up on my personal
page.

Thanks,
Om

The CMS interface was pretty straightforward to use. I was able to publish
a new build of the website.

Great! I just had to create a public_html folder in my
people.apache.orgaccount and it is available here:
people.apache.org/~bigosmallm

Thanks for the responses!

Finally, Is it okay for me to create a 'New Committer FAQ' page on the
Apache Flex wiki site and put these answers there?

If you already have a WIKI account, then somebody has to give you write
permissions. I'm not sure who that is anymore as Doug was helping out in
that aspect before he passed away.

When you commit changes, you are actually updating the "staging" server,
which is located at : http://flex.staging.apache.org/flex/

To push those changes to production, you can either use the Apache CMS, or
you can do a command-line push. Both options are described at :
http://www.apache.org/dev/infra-site.html

I personally have been using the CMS interface -- it's a single button and
it gives you more details on the background processes that are re-building
the site. A full doc on the CMS is here :
http://www.apache.org/dev/cms.html and
http://incubator.apache.org/guides/website.html

Just commit your own folder. There are no separate permissions in that
area. Generally, we've been following the rules that you only mess with
stuff in your own whiteboard, unless somebody asks you for help in theirs.

Carroll may need to answer this one. From what I remember, you need to
create a public_html folder on people.apache.org, or something along those
lines. My normal resources don't really list anything on this.
