This is true of the maven-assembly-plugin, certainly. However, I wasn't too keep on using custom assembly config, since the source-release assembly is pretty well defined in the Apache parent pom. I'd rather have zero/minimal config that doesn't diverge from what is defined above, especially if what is defined above establishes a convention that is acceptable.
