[jira] [Commented] (HIVE-18785) Make JSON SerDe First-Class SerDe

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-18785?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16374617#comment-16374617 ]

Ashutosh Chauhan commented on HIVE-18785:
-----------------------------------------

This is a good idea. Since this doesn't come out of the box many users end up using json serde from outside of Hive.

> Make JSON SerDe First-Class SerDe
> ---------------------------------
>
>                 Key: HIVE-18785
>                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-18785
>             Project: Hive
>          Issue Type: New Feature
>          Components: Serializers/Deserializers
>    Affects Versions: 3.0.0
>            Reporter: BELUGA BEHR
>            Priority: Major
>
> According to the [Hive SerDe Docs|https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/Hive/LanguageManual+DDL#LanguageManualDDL-RowFormats&SerDe], there are some extra steps involved in getting the JSON SerDe to work:
> {quote}
> ROW FORMAT SERDE
> 'org.apache.hive.hcatalog.data.JsonSerDe'
> STORED AS TEXTFILE
> In some distributions, a reference to hive-hcatalog-core.jar is required.
> ADD JAR /usr/lib/hive-hcatalog/lib/hive-hcatalog-core.jar;
> {quote}
> I would like to propose that we move this SerDe into first-class status:
> {{STORED AS JSONFILE}}
> The user should have to perform no additional steps to use this SerDe.
