[RELEASE]: translation deadline June 18th latest
Hi,
on the dev list I have proposed our way towards the AOO 4.0 release and
one important part is the translation.
I proposed a deadline of June 14th but had to correct myself because I
am not available form June 14-17 and it seems that I again will be the
bottleneck.
Anyway I will start to integrate the last translations on June 18th.
Ideally the translations will be available as soon as possible that we
can integrate them in time and can provide snapshot builds.
I plan to integrate the first finished translations next week.
Translations that will be finished later will be included in a potential
language update release. Important is the finished UI translation. But a
complete help translation is appreciated as well ;-) but no release
stopper from my point of view because we had released languages where
the help is still English only.
Further discussion on the translation deadline and further proceeding on
the l10n list.
Regards
Juergen

Making a release is not a small job, thx for taking it on.

To highlight what this means. For AOO 3.4.1 we have released
Arabic, Asturian, Czech, Danish, German, English (United Kingdom)
(100%), Spanish (100%), Basque, Finnish, French (100%), Scottish Gaelic,
Galician, Hungarian (100%), Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Norwegian
Bokmal, Dutch (100%), Polish, Portugese Brazil (UI 100%), Russian (UI
100%), Slovak, Slovenian, Swedish, Chinese (China), Chinese (Taiwan)
The percentage in the bracket shows the state for AOO 4.0!
Some of them are already finished or have at least a complete UI.
I am not 100% sure but I am currently planning to release only the
languages where the UI is 100%.
Arabic for example is critical because we have not seen an active
translation community for 3.4.1 and still don't see anything here.
I hope for all the other languages we will see some activities over the
next 2 weeks. Otherwise they will be postponed to a potential language
update release.
I have many other things to do on the way to the release. Please join me
by raising awareness for the outstanding translations or help find
volunteers.

I agree and I would like have some kind of continuous integration of
localization. Or at least every 2 weeks or so.
But the normal errors like typos you find in a release can be fixed at
any time.

No, I only have questions :)
ES translation is at 100% since some days, my question was just about
potential errors discovered during testing. I *hope* we will not find too
many problems this time, but considering that during the last year there
were near 2000 (yes, two thousands) fixes for long standing errors on ES
translation, ranging from simply typos to strings that said exactly the
opposite of what they do... well, I'm a bit worried about the short testing
times. But no problem, the ES test team is already on red alert waiting for
the firsts localized builds so there will be no problem at all ;)
Maybe for future releases we need to think about a way to make localized
test builds available on an earlier development stage. But we can discuss
this after 4.0.

I agree that the timeline is very tight but I don't want to set to
early. Some of the translation are already finished and will be
integrated asap and will be part of the snapshot builds.
The deadline is only for those who can't do it earlier. We can set the
deadline to June 12 but even then I can't guarantee that I can integrate
everything before June 14th. I thought it make more sense to give people
the weekend to complete their work.
My recommendation is to finish the translation asap and don't wait on
the last second.
Maybe you missed my point that I will integrate finished translations on
demand when they are finished and integrate them in the snapshot builds.
If you have better idea please let us know, I am open for everything.

How translation errors will be managed *after* this deadline? Considering
that there are no localized snapshot yet, this deadline does not give too
much time for testing.

Please join me
by raising awareness for the outstanding translations or help find
volunteers.

I think we should defer to the 20th.
But it depends on the demand of the devs for the end of snapshots.
