Docbook problems

Hi all,

I'm using Saxon7.1 to generate fo file from DocBook 1.53 style sheets. I
then try to use fop 0.20.4 to generate pdf, but it reports lots of
errors, and only seems to complete sometimes.

I'm doing this on Redhat 7.3, with ant 1.5 and java 1.4. My ant build
file is attached.

A sample of the errors is:

[java] Warning String-valued property starts with quote but doesn't
end with quote: "Times Roman",serif
[java] [ERROR] property - "background-attachment" is not
implemented yet.
[java] [ERROR] property - "background-position-horizontal" is not
implemented yet.
[java] [ERROR] property - "background-position-vertical" is not
implemented yet.
[java] Error creating background image: Error creating FopImage
object (http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/images/draft.png) : Jimi
image library not available

Am I doing something wrong? or is fop simply not ready for this yet? If
the later, then is there a more stable way to generate pdf from docbook
xml?

thanks!

This looks like a parser problem. If anyone looks at this in the
immediate future, it would probably be useful to check my changes to
PropertyTokenizer and PropertyParser. Basically, a list must be
generated when commas (and non-literal spaces) are encountered.

DocBook uses many features which are not completely
supported by FOP, in particular if you rely on the
default settings. Some problems can be easily fixed
by supplying values with are supported by FOP or using
alternate DocBook constructs, a few others require
slight hacking of the DocBook XSLT.

This means you won't get a serif font. I think this is caused
by DocBook default settings and probably goes away if you
explicitely select "Times Roman" as a font. However, I thought
this problem was fixed with 0.20.4, are you sure you use it?

Can be ignored for tiled backgrounds. If you want to have
a non-tiled watermark, you have to provide your background
image with a border so taht it fills the whole body region.

This means you'll have to install the Jimi image library, as noted
somewhere in the FOP release notes.
