What does GROUP in jetspeed mean

Hi
  I have doubt about groups in jetspeed. What are groups in jetspeed,
How can we use them, Whats it purpose ???????

 One person on the web says that group is for grouping the pages rather
than grouping the users.

  Can anyone help me in understanding or any links for resources
regarding groups in jetspeed.
