Sam, could you run "at hand" your cron program and check if the
communication apache-tomcat dies? If it does, we will have a
confirmation that the cutting of the logs is the problem.

Thanks Sam! Perhaps the problem is something in the apj13 connector or
in the persistent connection it has with apache.

Ok,
running `'logrotate -f /etc/logrotate.d/httpd`
forced a logrotate of the httpd logs, and in the new httpd error_log,
were the same error lines that I got from this sunday, so httpd did
indeed restart, but because the logging wasn't working anyway, catalina
still worked.
I then restored the original line I had related to logging which was :
[logger]
level=DEBUG
(at the beginning)
and tried restarting logrotate again. As far as I can see, nothing
untowards happened, so it seems that it may not be the logrotation
itself that disrupts catalina. Im going to leave it as is and wait till
next sunday morning to see if it does hang again, and if so, it's most
likely something else thats happening in cron.daily. we'll see.

Luis,
Just so that you know, there was no need to restart catalina this week.
I rechecked the logs, and it seems that apache httpd DID restart again
on sunday at 4am, but since Id tried to configure the logging for jk2,
which failed, the jk2 logging itself simply failed, and this seems to be
the reason that catalina didnt hang.
But Im going to force run the logrotate and we'll see.
