Oops. I'd forgotten that the lang/java build depends on some things in share/. Sorry!
I'd prefer you check out http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/avro/trunk/ and then use lang/java/pom.xml rather than add an svn:externals in lang/java to share/. Most folks check out the entire trunk, so making each lang/* standalone isn't a priority, it would duplicate a lot of flies, slow svn operations, etc.

so added but the build failed see : http://analysis.apache.org/jenkins/job/Avro/4/console.
Due to ipc and the plugin avro-maven-plugin which declare : <sourceDirectory>${parent.project.basedir}/../../../../share/schemas/</sourceDirectory>.
I wonder if you could add some svn:externals in ipc/src/main/schemas pointing to the rigth localtion and change the plugin configuration in your pom ?
