Travel assistance for EU 2012

Hello All,

I'm committer to Podling Apache OpenMeetings and based in Novosibirsk,
Russia.
I believe I can answer almost any question regarding Openmeetings project
and will be glad to do so at ApacheCon EU :)
The only problem is: Novosibirsk is a little bit far from Sinsheim, Germany
:(

I have heard of "Apache Travel Assistance" program. Is it still working?
http://www.apache.org/travel/ seems to be outdated :(

Thanks in advance for your answers :)

Hi Maxim,

TAC is still operational. Once the EU conference planning is properly
underway TAC will fire up its engines and mail all PMC lists with
details. As you are a podling you should be notified by a mentor.

To quote the TAC site: "Applications for assistance will open Monday
23rd July.". See http://www.apache.org/travel/ for more information on
this :)

That does sound like a rather friendlier, more inclusive wording.

Re: Travel assistance for EU 2012

Hi Nick, All,

I believe that the first full paragraph of
https://tac-apply.apache.org/should be reworded. Currently it states;

The Travel Assistance Committee is looking for people who would like to be
able to attend AC-EU-2012 who need some financial support in order to get
there. There are VERY few places available and the criteria is high, that
aside applications are open to all open source developers who feel that
their attendance would benefit themselves, their project(s), the ASF and
open source in general.

But that doesn't ring well.

I believe it should be something along the line of:

The Travel Assisting Committee support people who intend to attend the
ApacheCon EU 2012 event, by covering (some of) the cost involved. Of course
its budget is limited and acceptance criteria are high. However,
application for financial support is open to all open source developers,
who feel that their participation in the event would benefit the ASF, their
project(s) and open source in general.

I will look at the rest later today.

Regards,

Pierre

The update has been applied, and applications for TAC assistance to ACEU
are now open!

Before we send out the announcement (which still needs drafting - no
takers yet to help with that?), it'd be good if someone could confirm it
works fine.

So, if you were planning to apply for TAC assistance, it'd be great if
someone could try it soon and report to <ta...@apache.org> (a private,
non-archived list so your privacy is protected) if you hit any problems.
Assuming none are reported in, say, the next 6 hours, we can announce.
Well, announce as soon as somone writes up the announcement email that
is...!

Details of TAC are available at http://www.apache.org/travel/ , and to
apply you'll want https://tac-apply.apache.org/

Cheers

The announcement is due to go out today. Before that, someone needs to
load the revised dates into the webapp. I won't have access to my ssh keys
to get into the tac-vm box until tonight. If someone can beat me to it,
please svn up the webapp, do "./manage.py loaddata initial_data" to pull
in the revised dates, then bounce httpd to activate. Oh, and then start
drafting the announcement :)

You are correct. The front page of tac-apply.apache.org displays text
regarding the ApacheCon NA 2013 event. That should describe the ApacheCon
EU 2012 event first, and then the NA event.

On the application page both events are shown. None can be picked,
ApacheCon EU 2012 event is already closed.
This should be fixed a.s.a.p. given the tight schedule.

Pierre

Just found the https://tac-apply.apache.org/ is working.
But unfortunately it is going to taking application on AC-NA-2013 only

Would it be possible to have travel assistance for AC-EU-2012?

Thanks in advance

Short answer - see http://www.apache.org/travel/ - applications open this
coming Monday (23rd)

Longer answer - We hit a snag with the ssl certificate, so we need to
migrate the webapp to a slightly different hosting setup, which'll be
allowed to host the required certificate+key. (The old setup is no longer
supported). This has delayed us slightly, but we're aiming to go live on
Monday.

The Apache Travel Assistance Committee (commonly abreviated to TAC) is
currently indending to support people to attend both ApacheCon Europe in
November, and ApacheCon North America in February(ish...). I've updated
the website to let people know this. When applications open, an email will
be sent out to all committers. That'll hopefully be in a few weeks time.

(In the mean time, the committee needs to finish migrating the
applications webapp to a new machine, which has mostly been blocked on me.
Yes, I know, my bad, sorry all... :( Few other admin tasks are needed
first too. If any ASF members fancy getting involved in helping to support
TAC, new blood is always welcome!)
