TC5.5.4 auto deployment

Hi,
I know this subject is periodically revisited but I haven never been able to satisfactorily make auto deploys work consistently. Sometimes the context file for the application is removed from the ${catalina.home}/conf/Catalina/localhost directory? When the WAR file is dropped into the webapps directory, I get the web.xml file is missing. Maybe I should upgrade to 5.5.9.

Any suggestion is appreciated.
