Suggested XMLBeans site changes
Hello. Here are a few proposed changes to the XMLBeans web site. I've attached the changed Forrest files -- site.xml, tabs.xml, and skinconf.xml -- along with descriptions of the changes. Overall the intent was to streamline things, particularly for those not already familiar with the project. Feedback is welcome!
tabs.xml
- Made minor label changes to flatten things visually: new labels are
Home, Download, Documentation, Community, Project
site.xml
- Rewrote menus (see lists below) on each tab to include not just those items that are on
the index page, but also links to things that are related. For example,
the Download tab now has a link to Installing XMLBeans, which is
technically documentation, but would be good to know when downloading.
- Lots of restructuring to enable something that Forrest doesn't seem
to make very easy. The Home tab menu should have links to frequently
sought info, but not necessarily everything that's available on the
various tab menus. For example, the "initial proposal" is something good
to provide from the Project tab, but not necessarily something that you
want on first arriving at the site. A unfortunate side effect of this restructuring is that
the site.xml now contains duplicate entries for many menu items. If
there's a better way to do this, I'd love to hear it :)
skinconf.xml
- Set toc level to 0 so that toc links aren't written into the top of
each page. these are in the menu at the left anyway. Saves a bit of page real estate.
