[users@httpd] Re: Apache 1.3.29 works OK, but 2.0.48 corrupts files

The config file I use is available at

www.eetasoft.ee/apache/httpd.conf

I have Enablesendfile off in this file, XP firewall is turned off (only
router firewall exists), no antivirus.

This is my customer site.
I'm unable to reproduce this problem in my office XP.
I you want (please confirm) I can open the site available for testing.

In my knowledge, http://127.0.0.1 is not affected by firewalls or routers.

I searched Apache bug database and havent found solution other than SP1
installing.

[users@httpd] Apache Question? DNS Question? FrontPage Question?

Posted by Geoffrey Brown <be...@comcast.net>.
Apologies in advance to all if this is not the right forum for this
question.

I have three websites hosted at a small ISP who runs UNIX/Apache. I'll be
glad to furnish URLs and Apache versions if relevant. But to begin with, am
I asking this in the right place...

All three sites contain FrontPage forms, and the ISP has FrontPage 2002
extensions installed. The forms work properly when the site is addressed as
www.mysite.com. However, when the "www" is omitted, the forms do not
function: clicking the "submit" button produces a message box of the type I
used to see all the time when FTP was popular asking for userid and
password. Interestingly, a mirror of one of these sites is served on a
Win2K server at another, major ISP, and the problem is NOT present in that
configuration.

My initial inclination was that it was a Micro$oft problem, but a query on
the FrontPage list elicited only one response (that it sounded like a DNS
problem) instead of the usual outpouring of "me too" posts. My ISP,
however, says that it cannot be an Apache/DNS issue and must be a FrontPage
problem.

Any thoughts on the matter, including where this question might be more
appropriately asked, are most appreciated.

Sincerely,

Geoff Brown

No need to post, repost and repost; all you need to know is in the footer of

I cannot imagine this to be a configuration issue.

Just pointing out, that (subtle) problems related to firewalls don't usually
go away only by disabling them. The source of such problems are because the
firewall replaces parts of the OS's TCP/IP stacks with their own buggy code.
Not that this necessarily is your problem.

Can you identify any differences between these two? This is crucial, because
something _must_ be different, and that is causing the corruption.

Very much so. To have a few URIs that can be studied would help in
diagnosing the nature of the corruption, and hopefully provide clues as to
what is causing it.

Not routers and hardware firewalls, but it can very well be affected by
software firewalls (as explained above).
