Excel 2 Xml task ?

Does anybody know of an ant task that is able to read excel sheets and
convert it into xml (or some other format) ?

For a previous project I hacked a task that was able to do just that (using
apache poi).

If there is no such task around and there is sufficient interest, I'd be
happy to clean up this code and contribute it.

Which makes me wonder: are there any guidelines specifying when and how a
new task should be added as an optional task ?
