I'm struggling with this problem on a Mac.  I find that print also defaults to
A4 if I set page size to A5 or A3.  In fact, if I set page size to something
roughly approximating to 1.4 : 1 ratio, then it defaults to A4.  It's extremely
annoying and I'll have to revert to OOo3.1 till it's fixed, but where can I
download 3.1?
