[I] Occasional Integration test failure [arrow-js]
pitrou opened a new issue, #15:
URL: https://github.com/apache/arrow-js/issues/15
On a PR I got what seemed to be an occasional unrelated error in the integration tests between Javascript and C++:
https://github.com/apache/arrow/actions/runs/15113644177/job/42478772147#step:11:20082
If you expand the failure, you get the following logs:
```
And the explanation seems to be limited floating-point precision when the value `-1109815901M1503025502d1124093548480635000ns` is read from the JSON file. The nanoseconds components is `1124093548480635000` in the JSON, but Javascript only knows floating-point numbers and they don't have enough precision for this large integer. The nanoseconds component is therefore rounded to `1124093548480635008`, and that fails comparing to the data received over Arrow IPC.
I could reproduce this by:
```bash
for x in {1..300}; do bin/json-to-arrow.ts -a /dev/null -j /tmp/arrow-integration-sx8mh7pu/generated_null.json & done
```
Slow CPU or slow IO may be required to reproduce this.
For the record, we also see intermittent failures in the Rust / Javascript integration tests (as @mbrobbel pointed out)
- https://github.com/apache/arrow-rs/issues/7817
Here is another example, from @rluvaton:
I couldn't reproduce this with `archery integration ... --serial ...`. Parallel execution may be related.
@pitrou That PR was mine. I'm working on it this week and will follow up with a PR that additionally adds a unit test. I saw this in the course of some other work I was doing. It resolved the test failures that were preventing integrations tests while adding support for view types. But I believe there's still a broader issue occurring. After adding the unit tests I will dig in further to get this resolved fully, and then will continue on with support for the remaining unsupported types.
I could reproduce this failure easily (I just need a few loops) by:
```bash
while (. ~/arrow-dev/bin/activate && ARROW_JS_ROOT=$PWD archery integration --with-cpp=yes --with-js=yes --run-ipc >& log); do :; done
```
but I could reproduce this failure by ...:
```bash
while bin/json-to-arrow.ts -a /dev/null -j generated_null.json; do :; done
```
So, I couldn't debug this...
@trxcllnt I could reproduce the interval_mdn failure with the following data:
JSON: [generated_interval_mdn.json](https://github.com/user-attachments/files/21481269/generated_interval_mdn.json)
Arrow (gziped because for uploading): [0b56aebc_generated_interval_mdn.json_as_file.gz](https://github.com/user-attachments/files/21481307/0b56aebc_generated_interval_mdn.json_as_file.gz)
Could you try the following?
```console
$ gzunip 0b56aebc_generated_interval_mdn.json_as_file.gz
$ bin/integration.ts -a 0b56aebc_generated_interval_mdn.json_as_file -j generated_interval_mdn.json --mode VALIDATE
json: generated_interval_mdn.json
arrow: 0b56aebc_generated_interval_mdn.json_as_file
Error: json and arrow record batches report the same values: fail

@alamb could you modify the workflow to upload the generated data as an artifact with `actions/upload-artifact` before a test run? I'd like to help, I just can't predict what might be going on with random intermittent failures on random inputs.

Is that enough for you?

Ah, sorry.
We should use #190 not here for the crash case.

@kou Excuse the delay, a lot going on over the new year. But I finally had a chance to dig in over the weekend and I believe I was able to identify the root cause. I created a draft PR addressing it, added a unit test, and made some updates to the test harness/utilities, since that was playing a role.
Have a look at it and if looks ok I can put it into ready so we can run some integration tests over it.
