One of the things that such an integration would do is free up a ton
of developer resources that (based on postings to the SV mailing
lists) are currently trying to implement the XForms widgets in pure
(read: Adobe-specific) SVG. A great example is at
http://svgui.sourceforge.net/ , but there are plenty of other
examples. To be fair, the SVGUI project is looking to go beyond the
basic XForms UI, but the benefits of having SVG + XForms would be
enormous. In my case I could finally finish the project I've been
tasked with and have been putting off :)

If only XSmiles (which already does this integration) and Batik
(which seems to have better SVG support than the CSIRO toolkit)
already got along... ;)

Excellent point, and I have to admit that having an SVG browser that
actually seems to adhere to the specification, especially with
respect to the DOM, is a major bonus. Unlike some other popular
implementation... <grrrrr/>

Hopefully I didn't come across as sounding critical of Batik, as that
wasn't the intent, especially given that I haven't contributed any
code.

Actually, the problem is that until very recently (perhaps a month
or two) Batik wasn't ready to consider doing Smile Animation. The
Batik team focused on getting a _complete_ implementation of the
Static portions of the SVG specification before considering issues of
dynamic SVG.

Now that we have decent support for scripted animation (so we know
our basic framework works) we are trying to gather resources to
implement a Smile animation engine. It's true, I wish we had
everything two years ago but I don't think we really could have gotten
here any faster given the resources available to us.
