Invoking a Producer from a URI

Greet the sun all,

In the cocoon.properties file, the comments state that to invoke a
Producer, you call the following URI:

http://your.site.com/your_XML_file.xml?producer=dummy

in order to run the example DummyProducer and receive some output.
However, in my situation, Cocoon wants to parse your_XML_file.xml before
it even thinks about looking at parameters. I looked at the archives
and there were a couple of posts that talked about invoking
whatever.xml?product=dummy but the post contained nothing that I am not
doing.

So back to my question, taking a stock Cocoon 1.7.3 install and making
sure that DummyProducer is in the classpath, what is the officially
blessed method of invoking a Producer from a URI?
