The DBCP recycles abandoned connections when it starts running out of
room in the connection pool.  That is the way it is designed.

The DBCP is part of Jakarta commons.  If you still need this feature
file a new bug report listing it as an Enhancement for the DBCP in
Jakarta Commons.
