I did a thorough check of the latest alpha manuals and there is no actual output of derby.log showing the network server started with ssl, nor mention of the existence of a different startup message.
So, there is no 'update' of the documentation needed because there was no previous reflection of this variation in network server start diagnostic messages in the documentation.
And I think adding an example of the output might only confuse things because the output will be different for various JVM / JVM versions and it would make the documentation need more updates in future when other protocols get supported.

We *could* add something to show that derby.log shows a different error message, if desired.
If so, this would go in the Security Guide, under the topic 'Configuring SSL/TLS' - subtopic 'Starting the server with SSL/TLS' (https://builds.apache.org/job/Derby-docs/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/trunk/out/security/csecsslserver.html).
After:
'[...] SSL at the server side is activated with the property derby.drda.sslMode (default off)
or the -ssl option for the server start command.'
we could add something like:
' When the server is started with SSL enabled this will be reflected in the boot message in the derby error and diagnostic log file (derby.log). Also the SSL/TLS protocol versions supported by the JVM and Derby will be listed'.

But I wonder if documenting this would make the documentation less clear by mentioning derby.log at this point.
