[jira] Created: (BEEHIVE-439) new build style not working for simple Web applications

new build style not working for simple Web applications
-------------------------------------------------------

         Key: BEEHIVE-439
         URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/BEEHIVE-439
     Project: Beehive
        Type: Bug
  Components: Build
 Environment: Beehive SVN
    Reporter: Jeremiah Johnson
     Fix For: V1Beta

I was attempting to use the new build-pageflows macro and found that a simple Web application doesn't build if I use Controller.jpf in the webapp root. When I rename Controller.jpf to WEB-INF/src/Controller.java, then the Web application builds as expected.

The build-pageflows macro is actually silent about the failure. Because the failure is silent, I made this bug 'major'. Here is an example of the build output when using Controller.jpf (I will attach the build script used in the repro tarball):

build:
[echo] Deploy NetUI to webapp /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/webapp

deploy.beehive.webapp.runtime:
[echo] Deploy NetUI to webapp rooted at: /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/webapp
[copy] Copying 40 files to /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/webapp/WEB-INF/lib
[copy] Copying 14 files to /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/webapp/resources
    [mkdir] Created dir: /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/webapp/WEB-INF/classes

bundle:
    [mkdir] Created dir: /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/build
      [jar] Building jar: /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/build/BEEHIVE-4XX.war

BUILD SUCCESSFUL
Total time: 5 seconds

Now, here is the output that I get when using WEB-INF/src/Controller.java (notice the APT step).

build:
[echo] Deploy NetUI to webapp /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/webapp

deploy.beehive.webapp.runtime:
[echo] Deploy NetUI to webapp rooted at: /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/webapp
[copy] Copying 40 files to /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/webapp/WEB-INF/lib
[copy] Copying 14 files to /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/webapp/resources
    [mkdir] Created dir: /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/webapp/WEB-INF/classes
[apt] Compiling 1 source file to /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/webapp/WEB-INF/classes

bundle:
    [mkdir] Created dir: /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/build
      [jar] Building jar: /home/jjohnson/projects/BEEHIVE-4XX/build/BEEHIVE-4XX.war

BUILD SUCCESSFUL
Total time: 9 seconds

[jira] Updated: (BEEHIVE-439) new build style not working for simple Web applications

Posted by "Jeremiah Johnson (JIRA)" <be...@incubator.apache.org>.

Jeremiah Johnson updated BEEHIVE-439:
-------------------------------------

    Attachment: BEEHIVE-439.tar

Here is a tarball (BEEHIVE-439.tar) to reproduce the behavior that I am observing. To use this, untar it into some directory and then do the following:

cd BEEHIVE-439
ant clean bundle
cp build/BEEHIVE-439.war $CATALINA_HOME/webapps

Point your browser at http://localhost:8080/BEEHIVE-439/; you will see an index page, but it will only show "BEEHIVE-439 Index Page". Take a look at the log file and you will see a message like this:

- Could not load Struts module configuration for /WEB-INF/.pageflow-struts-generated/jpf-struts-config.xml.
- Content: expression null resolved to null, using empty string.

Now, do the following:

mv webapp/Controller.jpf webapp/WEB-INF/src/Controller.jpf
ant clean bundle
cp build/BEEHIVE-439.war $CATALINA_HOME/webapps

Now point your browser at http://localhost:8080/BEEHIVE-439/; you should now see, "BEEHIVE-439 Index Page

Hello, World!"

[jira] Resolved: (BEEHIVE-439) empty WEB-INF/src directory causes *.jpf in webapp root to not be found

Posted by "Jeremiah Johnson (JIRA)" <be...@incubator.apache.org>.

Jeremiah Johnson resolved BEEHIVE-439:
--------------------------------------

Assign To: Jeremiah Johnson (was: Rich Feit)
    Resolution: Invalid

I didn't look closely enough at the build examples - my source directory was incorrect in my use of build-pageflows.

      <build-pageflows classpathRef="webapp.lib.classpath"
         destDir="${webapp.dir}/WEB-INF/classes"
         sourceDir="${webapp.dir}"
         tmpDir="${webapp.dir}/WEB-INF/.tmpbeansrc"/>

That is what I should use (based on the examples). I had sourceDir set to ${webapp.dir}/WEB-INF/src when I produced this bug.

Jeremiah Johnson reassigned BEEHIVE-439:

    Assign To: Rich Feit

Doesn't appear to be related to the recent macro changes, so assigning to Rich to look at the source discovery.
