[beta-9] Missing jelly tag lib in ${maven_home}\lib ???
Hi Folks,
the beta-8 and beta-9 releaes fails whenever I use jelly:log into a jelly
script.
If I copy commons-jelly-tags-log jar file into the lib directory everything
works fine.
Am I using jelly:log incorreclty or is this JAR actually missing in your
distribution???
Thx
Toby

Must have been a bad installation.
I've reinstalled from scratch beta-9 and it now works fine.
Thanks for help!

attached are a couple of log files test against beta-9 (they differ in
that between 1 and 2 I added jelly-tags-antlr.jar):
as you can see it does not find the jelly tag classes.
In order to make it compile ( the maven goal in this case was
java:compile) I had to add to maven.home/lib:
commons-jelly-1.0-beta-3.jar
commons-jelly-SNAPSHOT.jar
commons-jelly-tags-antlr-SNAPSHOT.jar
commons-jelly-tags-velocity-SNAPSHOT.jar
commons-jelly-tags-xml-SNAPSHOT.jar
The build used to work under beta-8, without adding anything.
Build is on Linux RedHat 8.0, JDK1.4.1

oops, sorry! they were under the 'project info' link!

I've been trying to use the test plugin which only shows as dependencies
junit, xerces and xml-apis.
When I tried to run a single test case (which worked in beta-8)
it complained it did not find jelly tags - specifically, I had to
install the snapshot version of commons-jelly, commons-jelly-tags-antlr,
commons-jelly-tags-xml, and velocity

I don't have the stack trace available now but it was complaining at
classes not found, and kept downloading the above to the lib directory
until it worked.
I can provide a full stack trace tonight if needed.

This was done well before beta 9.

Each plugin lists it's own dependencies. I can't see how it's trial and
error, as each plugin has a documented home page that lists dependencies.
See http://maven.apache.org/reference/plugins/struts/dependencies.html for
the struts plugin, as an example.

If you don't explicitly use a jelly tag, you don't need to change
dependencies.

See above.

Can you provide some more detail?

If I understand correctly, in beta-9 the core maven dependencies
are separated from the plugin dependencies.
But one might argue that maven itself is not very useful *without* the
plugins.
And also at the moment it's a bit of a trial and error to guess which
jelly tag libs are need by which plugin.
If the developer doesn't explicitly use any specific jelly tag, should
he need to know which jelly tag libs are used?
Should these dependencies be listed somewhere (I haven't found them in
the plugin docs).
In order to get the same build to work in switching to beta-9 I had to
add various jelly tag libs even though I don't explicitly use any.
But maybe I'm missing something.
Any clarification is appreciated.
Thanks, Mauro

Jelly tags not used by Maven itself are not automatically loaded. You
need to add the jar file as a dependency, in your project.xml, something
like:
<!-- needed for build only -->
<dependency>
<id>commons-jelly:commons-jelly-tags-log</id>
<version>whatever version you want here</version>
</dependency>
