[Bug 124261] New: Apple menu no longer functional

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=124261

            Bug ID: 124261
        Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Apple menu no longer functional
           Product: General
           Version: 4.1.0-dev
          Hardware: Mac
                OS: Mac OSX, 10.9
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: critical
          Priority: P1
         Component: ui
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: thorsten.wagner.4@gmail.com
                CC: hdu@apache.org, issues@openoffice.apache.org

Using the 64 bit version of OpenOffice on Mac OS X the Apple menu is no longer
functional when an OpenOffice window is selected and the OpenOffice menu is
displayed in the menu bar:

About This Mac: o.k.
Software Update: not o.k.
App Store: not o.k.
System Preferences: not o.k.
Dock Preferences: not o.k.
Force Quit: o.k.
Restart: o.k.
Shut Down: o.k.
Log Out: o.k.

Selection another application, e.g. Finder causes the Apple menu to work
correctly again. This behaviour does not depend on OpenOffice as a running
process, it depends only on selecting an OpenOffice window and having the
OpenOffice menu displayed in the menu bar.

This behaviour has been produced with the current revison 1569561 from trunk,
but appears with earlier revisions of the 64 bit version too.

An interesting data point is that the "System Preferences" open just fine from
the dock if its kept there.

Wow, that's a great observation, thanks! The putenv/setenv fix accidentally
solved this too! I didn't know that these problems were that related but I like
it :-)

Why the System Settings entry of the system menu part relies on the health of
our environment variables is a bit strange, but this seems indeed to be the
case. So the root cause was a duplicate to the one in bug 124509.

--- Comment #5 from hdu@apache.org <hd...@apache.org> ---
So there are two easy workarounds if the System Preferences need to be
activated with AOO being the foreground app:
- keep the System Preferences icon in the Dock
- temporarily switch to another app, open the Preferences, switch back

@ Herbert: Are you able to confirm this?

--- Comment #2 from Thorsten Wagner <th...@gmail.com> ---
I rose importance to P1 as no application should have an impact to the
stability of operating system related functions. Maybe I set importance wrong
during creation of the ticket.

The bug ist still present in revision 1576748 from trunk.
