I overlooked that some new plugin stuff has actually made it into 8x – so easy to overlook because the issue is "Open" still. Lets make sure we don't actually ship this in 8.3 unless a review happens. I'll try and make some time for it but I wish to look at the high level plugin aspects before diving into details like this one.
