Existing Cocoon IDE
Hi,
I am looking for an existing Cocoon/XSLT/Java IDE
or Eclipse plug-in.
My requirements are not high:
- visual editing (and better debugging) of XSLT/XHTML, XML
(forms);
- support of Cocoon 2.0.4;
- support JBoss [3.0.7];
- support Java [JDK 1.4+], including debugging.
Editing sitemaps is very nice but not required.
I am working on enhancing existing Cocoon project,
not doing new projects.
I use Eclipse [with MyEclipse] and XMLSpy.
Maybe XMLSpy plug-in for Eclipse is the answer ?
Thank you in advance,
Oleg.

Lepido uses webtools and so all the XML/XSL/Schema etc. tools of the WTP
are available in Ledpio as well.

Hi Oleg,
there is Lepido, a new Eclipse Project, which has just released its
first milestone.
See the Mail of Sylvain from yesterday with the title "[ANN] Eclipse
Lepido, Tools for Apache Cocoon milestone 1" for more details.
It includes:
* A cocoon forms editor
* A sitemap editor
For JBoss support you should have a look at the JBoss Eclipse IDE here:
http://www.jboss.org/products/jbosside
I don't know of an Eclipse plugin which does visual editing of XSLT
(perhaps the XMLSpy plugin for Eclipse does) but (X)HTML should be
supported by the Web Tools Platform:
http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/
Hope this helps,
Andreas

Hi Oleg,
I use Eclipse + Oxygen (plugin for XSTL and XML editing) + the Relax NG
schema for editing the sitemap.
Look also at the Lepido project (search it by using Google), they have
recently have made Milestone 1..

Tee hee. I think you'll find this is the project that has gone open
source as Lepido. I'm pretty sure they're the same thing :-)

hi All,
Cocoon Assistant is one more good IDE for creating and configuring and
deployble Cocoon applications.
check this one out at
http://www.anyware-tech.com/en/developper/EclipsePlugins/cocoon_assistant.html
this tool gives you the Visual Editors for editing XMAP and XCONF files etc...
cheers,
garikapati

Yep. If we know how to uncompress files, then it is easy to install! :-)
Yesterday, I managed to install it following:
http://www.eclipse.org/lepido/download.html
I think it is a worth to use lepido, mainly for people starting with cocoon!

It's 0.1.0 release. It has bugs but it is usable and the bugs I have
discovered are easy to workaround.

Not sure what you mean. Lepido has a cforms editor. and WTP provides
many tools for xml, XLST, XHTML etc.

Not yet (is pat of roadmap).
> Is it easy to install and work with ?
Yes, it is, if you know Eclipse and follow the smple install
instructions properly.

Not exactly. While it is the initial release under the Eclipse umbrella.
In fact, lepido exists for more than 1 year (see Initial contribution in
[1] ). I had the pleasure to see it running on GT2004.

Honestly i don't think its ready for production use, because it is still
in early development stage.
Lepido is cool for some editing of cforms but don't rely on it for
debugging. :((
But i'm simply a beginner, maybe someone has a diferent opinion.

Has anybody tried it ?
Is it ready for use in production ? Crashes ?
As I mentioned before, my 2 most serous requirements are:
- Visual Editing of XSL forms (XHTML);
- debugging of Cocoon XSL forms.
Is Lepido doing these things ?
Is it easy to install and work with ?
Thank you,
Oleg.

You have amazing timing. The Lepido project announced its first
milestone release earlier today. See http://www.eclipse.org/lepido/
