[jira] [Commented] (INFRA-8951) Very slow login to people; very slow when converting ids to names

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-8951?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=14260744#comment-14260744 ]

Chris Lambertus commented on INFRA-8951:
----------------------------------------

This is a long standing issue with LDAP on mino. Caching can't be implemented in the existing environment for a variety of reasons (we tried.) This is going to be part of a larger infra task to evaluate and improve the LDAP setup. There's not much to be done in the short term.

> Logins to people have become very slow recently.
> Also I've noticed that running "ls -l" takes much longer than "ls -ln".
> The conversion of gid/uid to names seems to be the culprit here as "ps -u" is also very slow.
> I assume this is due to the use of LDAP.
> Is there anything that can be done to speed this up?
> Perhaps some kind of caching mechanism for the gid/uid parts of LDAP.
> These don't tend to change once created, but additions obviously do occur.
