HBase & Whirr status update

Hi,

A quick update on my attempts to get HBase working.

I have launched successfully clusters with:

 * standard HBase 0.90.3. I tried it on top of Cloudera Hadoop (the .tar.gz
dist), but it should work equally well with other HBase-supported builds.
See WHIRR-240 and the new hbase-ec2-090 recipe.
 * the CDH3u0 linux packages. See WHIRR-334.

I also added the ability to set hbase-site.xml properties from the cluster
configuration file (see WHIRR-339), similar as to how this is done for
Hadoop.

If anyone wants to give it a try without going through the trouble of
applying the patches, you can get my fork at https://github.com/bdumon/whirr

It is the CDH patch which has been committed, the stock hbase is still open
as WHIRR-240. I'll bring that patch up to date against current trunk, though
it might not be before the weekend.

Hi,

The mvn package is not necessary. Right after doing mvn install, whirr
should be ready to run.

If you have a look inside the bin/whirr script, you'll see that it checks
for the presence of a target directory, maybe you can check this evaluates
correctly. Adding "set -x" at the top of the whirr script will output what
it is doing.

Alright, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've tried mvn install,
mvn package and mvn package -Ppackage. I've tried running bin/whirr
directly from the checkout directory and from extracting the *-src.tar.gz.
 I keep getting this error:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
org/apache/whirr/cli/Main
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.whirr.cli.Main
at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:202)

at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:306)
at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:301)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:247)
Could not find the main class: org.apache.whirr.cli.Main. Program will
exit.

Googling for "noclassdeffounderror org apache whirr cli main", looks like
I'm not the only one, but I don't see a clear answer on how to fix.

Ugh, sorry for the spam - the problem was my hbase.properties file I had
been working on and placed in the project dir.

(target/rat.txt had this info)... trying again.
