0.4 Progress Report

Wanted to send a general internal progress report, from my perspective.

Per https://issues.apache.org/jira/issues/?filter=12338530 0.4-incubating resolves/closes 50 issues.  Some of them impacted 5 or more modules.

Record participation, which will be quantified in the incubator report shortly.  Good discussions covering the now, the next, and the big picture of the project.  Thanks to everyone who pitched in.

Five items on the draft AS 2.0 transition plan https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/STREAMS/Activity+Streams+2.0 were accomplished.

Very significant progress made toward making streams easier to run for the less-experienced / less-committed.

We’ve got 25 issues tagged for 0.5-incubating covering a very diverse set of improvements. https://issues.apache.org/jira/issues/?filter=12338721

Some of these issues will take serious refactoring, I estimate 0.5-incubating at 1.5X-2X as much work total as 0.4-incubating.

Let’s keep building momentum.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: 0.4 Progress Report

Posted by Ate Douma <at...@douma.nu>.
I've further updated the draft stream report on the wiki to fix/correct the
following:

- new PMC members (Joey, Suneel) => new PPMC members
thanks to John Ament for noticing that typo!

- rephrased wording about the the 0.4-incubating release (again)
"52 Issues closed with new release candidate 0.4-incubating (IPMC vote in
progress)" =>
"52 Issues closed for upcoming release candidate 0.4-incubating"

Thanks Suneel,

I'm going to change back the last release entry though, which still is
0.3-incubating.
The 0.4-incubating release candidate still has to go through the IPMC, at least
for 72h, even while no additional binding +1 votes are needed.
Only when no blocking issues are raised by the IPMC can the 0.4-incubating
candidate be declared a official release.

Other than that, I think the report is fine.
I'll add some positive mentor feedback as well, and it might be nice if you
and/or Matt can do likewise.

Re: 0.4 Progress Report

Posted by sblackmon <sb...@apache.org>.

Following up - I just ran the same numbers for October that we reported to the board in September.

Draft board report below.

———

Streams

Apache Streams (incubating) unifies a diverse world of digital profiles and
online activities into common formats and vocabularies, and makes these
datasets accessible across a variety of databases, devices, and platforms for
streaming, browsing, search, sharing, and analytics use-cases.

Streams has been incubating since 2012-11-20.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

1. Community growth and PMC maturity.
2. Demonstrate a consistent release schedule.
3. Participation of project community within related standards-bodies and
Apache projects.

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware
of?

The project is now on a monthly reporting schedule to monitor effective progress in growing the community
and active participation.

How has the community developed since the last report?

dev@streams.incubator.apache.org
115 emails (up >100%) sent by 16 people (+1), divided into 36 topics (up 400%).

http://streams.incubator.apache.org
196 Sessions (up ~60%), 247 Users (up ~35%), 1110 Pageviews (up >100%).

How has the project developed since the last report?

https://github.com/apache/incubator-streams-master
Excluding merges, 4 authors (+3) have pushed 32 commits (up ~375%) to master.
On master, 22 files (up 250%) have changed.

https://github.com/apache/incubator-streams
Excluding merges, 7 authors (+6) have pushed 106 commits (up >1000%) to master.
On master, 868 files (up >1000%) have changed.

https://github.com/apache/incubator-streams-examples
Excluding merges, 3 authors (+2) have pushed 7 commits (+1) to master.
On master, 24 files have changed.

52 Issues closed with release of 0.4-incubating
35 new Issues opened (+28)

Date of last release:

2016-11-02 : 0.4-incubating release

When were the last committers or PMC members elected?

2016-10-27: Joey Frazee elected as committer / PMC member
2016-09-28: Suneel Marthi elected as mentor / PMC member

Signed-off-by:

[ ](streams) Ate Douma
[ ](streams) Matt Franklin
[ ](streams) Suneel Marthi

Thanks JIRA.

Here are the filters I was referring to:

project = STREAMS AND fixVersion = 0.4

project = STREAMS AND fixVersion = 0.5

Nothing special.

Can't access that URL, the filter appears to be private.
