   > what is BC story here? if producer produces a ZSTD compressed message, how do the consumers know about that.
   if it requires people to upgrade consumers first and then producers later, we should call out the sequence somewhere (either in javadoc or a separate upgrade doc)
   
   Good point. To use zstd, both producers and consumers will need to be of version >= 2.3. I'll call that out in the Javadoc.
   
   I don't think we should specify in an upgrade doc, since at this point it's not possible to use this compression type. After you upgrade, or in a new application, you can turn that on.
