Migrating to commons-digester3-3.2: No such accessible method error

We are migrating our old org.apache.commons.digester_1.8  version to the
commons-digester3-3.2.
This change is giving us errors during parsing
like

No such accessible method: addService() on object:
composite.model.ServiceModel

rules are defined like below and the method addService exist aswell
digester.addObjectCreate("*/service", ServiceModel.class);
digester.addSetProperties("*/service");
 digester.addSetNext("*/service", "addService");

This was working fine in 1.8 version but not in 3.2 . Please help.
